Each and every day, more and more milk alternatives are being developed and hitting the market. The newest and very interesting proposal comes from Sophie’s Bionutrients, a start-up company based in Singapore.
In May, Sophie’s Bionutrients developed a milk alternative that is microalgae-based. The company ensured that the finished product will be rid of allergens, therefore being safe to consume for those who suffer from lactose intolerance.
This milk replacement beverage is produced using the company’s microalgae protein flour. Said flour contains the same essential amino acids as microalgae. After the flour is ready, it is then homogenized with water to produce the dairy-free milk alternative.
Sophie’s Bionutrients ensures that their product has a nutritional value that is comparable to traditional cow’s milk. However, by altering the rations of the water soluble microalgae flour in the process, the protein value can be increased up to 50%. The microalgae based milk alternative has a texture similar to the already known nut based alternatives, though it can be refined to imitated the creamier texture of traditional cow’s milk.
So far, the core of Sophie’s Bionutrients is its neutral-colour microalgae flour made from a strain of microalgae that can be harvested in just three days.
